This role performs a broad range of laboratory testing across multiple disciplines, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, urinalysis, coagulation, and serology. The MLS will work independently during night shifts, ensuring accurate and timely results to support patient care in a Critical Access Hospital setting.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and complex laboratory testing across all core lab departmentsAnalyze, verify, and report test results, including critical valuesPerform phlebotomy and specimen processing as neededMaintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentationPerform and document quality control proceduresUtilize Laboratory Information System (LIS) for documentation and reportingMaintain compliance with all regulatory and safety standardsRequirementsEducation Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field with completed clinical trainingExperience Minimum 2+ years of recent hospital laboratory experience required Strong generalist experience required Previous Critical Access Hospital experience preferred Cerner EHR experience requiredCertifications ASCP (MLS/MT) or AMT certification required AHA BLS certification requiredSkills Ability to work independently on night shift Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills Experience across multiple lab disciplines Comfortable in a fast-paced, rural hospital settingAdditional Information Traveler must be comfortable working independently Floating may be required within scope (including phlebotomy) Must be able to adapt to rural healthcare environmentAbout the FacilityPagosa Springs Medical Center is a Critical Access Hospital located in southwest Colorado, serving a rural mountain community.
