The role involves conducting diagnostic testing, analyzing test results, and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable outcomes. The MLT collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective patient care in an acute care hospital setting.Essential FunctionsPerform laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunohematologyCalibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment according to established protocolsAnalyze test results for accuracy, identify anomalies, and take corrective action as necessaryDocument test results and report critical values promptly to appropriate personnelMaintain quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure regulatory compliancePerform venipuncture and specimen collection as requiredAssist in training new laboratory staff and students on laboratory procedures and protocolsMaintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocolsCommunicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and other departments regarding laboratory procedures and test resultsParticipate in performance improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain clinical competenciesKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsExcellent attention to detail and accuracy in testing and documentationStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsProficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR)Effective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stress environmentStrong organizational and time management abilitiesQualificationsEducationAssociate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Applied Science, Biology, or related field requiredLicenses/CertificationsASCP or AMT certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification required within timeframe specified in facility policyExperience1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred
