Laboratory TechnicianFull time Nights. 7 on/7 off. Performs various laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis.

Obtains quality results by following policy and procedures for quality control, quality assurance, maintenance, calibration, and calibration verification to ensure CLIA standards are met. Responsible for proper patient identification, sample collection, and sample processing.ResponsibilitiesVerify patient identification using verbal communication and two patient identifiersCollect blood and non-blood specimens (e.g., urine, sputum, throat or nasal swabs) for laboratory testingPerform venipunctures and capillary punctures using aseptic technique per department policyIdentify, label, handle, and transport specimens to the lab to meet turnaround times: STAT: within 60 minutesRoutine: within 4 hoursEnsure specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintain specimen integrityPerform test analysis for systems in which competency and proficiency testing have been completedMaintain confidentiality of patient informationFollow hospital isolation, safety, and emergency management proceduresEvaluate pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical factors before releasing patient resultsAdhere to laboratory quality control and assurance policiesTroubleshoot errors and variances, ensuring remedial action is taken before releasing resultsOperate and maintain test equipment per preventive maintenance schedules and troubleshoot instrument error codesOrder unit supplies to maintain inventory of equipment, stock, and suppliesResponsible for order entry through the electronic medical record/databaseEstablish and maintain effective, positive, and professional relationships with patients, families, healthcare team, and co-workersProvide excellent customer service using appropriate professional and ethical behaviorQualificationsRequired:Associate Degree in Laboratory Science (MLT)Medical Technologist (MT) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)BLS certification required or must be completed within the first 30 days of employmentInfection ControlInitial and ongoing training in infection control.
