Medical Lab Assistant II

Laboratory Team MemberTeam member is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, to include order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, aliquoting, etc. Team member validates and processes specimens delivered to the laboratory, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing. Team member may be responsible for performing phlebotomy.

Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Team member will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.Perform pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order entry, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquotingAccurately receive, label, and prepare specimens for testing while maintaining strict quality and safety standardsPerform phlebotomy as needed, ensuring proper patient identification and collection techniquesSupport laboratory operations by managing worklists, tracking specimens, and ensuring timely turnaroundCommunicate effectively with clinical staff to resolve specimen or order issuesMaintain compliance with all laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirementsAssist with training and onboarding of new team members as neededContribute to a safe, efficient, and patient-focused lab environmentEducation:High School Diploma or GED requiredExperience:3+ years of phlebotomy and/or specimen processing experience preferredExperience with specimen handling, labeling, accessioning, and processing requiredExposure to Microbiology and/or Anatomic Pathology preferredExperience assisting with tissue handling or pathology-related tasks (facility dependent) preferredLicensure/Certification:Phlebotomy certification required (ASCP, ASPT, AMT, or NHA) where applicableIf not currently certified, must obtain certification within 6 months of hireContinued employment is contingent upon obtaining certification within required timeframeAdditional Qualifications:Working knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory proceduresAbility to follow written protocols and maintain quality and safety standardsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to work independently while managing multiple prioritiesStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate with clinical teams, patients, and staffAt Novant Health, we believe remarkable care starts with compassion for our patients, our communities, and each other.
