Medical Lab Assistant - CPT - Los Angeles

Medical Lab Assistant, CPTThe Medical Lab Assistant, CPT functions with general directions from senior technical personnel and reports to the Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities include performing blood draws, supply inventory, specimen storage, and assisting the processing bench as needed for lunch and end-of-day coverage. Performs all job duties with sensitivity to the patient population(s) being served.ResponsibilitiesMaintains and understands the daily phlebotomy schedule in the EMRPrepares for patient blood draw based on the physician orders in the EMRUnderstands where to locate and how to comply with test collection requirements for each laboratory facility performing testing, including appropriate kits and paperwork required for esoteric testingCollects the appropriate tubes required for each test orderCollects specimens while following policy and procedure and maintaining the integrity of the process with strict adherence to patient identification policyEffectively communicates with physicians and physician teams when order clarification is necessaryAdheres to hygiene and safety proceduresInventories supplies for the phlebotomy area, restock as necessaryPerforms a weekly expiration date check of all phlebotomy suppliesRotates stored patient specimens from refrigerator to freezer storage and discard old samplesAssists the processing bench as needed for coverage during lunch and end-of-day dutiesQualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma/GED General Education - minimumExperience1 year Phlebotomy and lab assistant experience with demonstrated competency in the job duties listed above - minimum3 years Phlebotomy and lab assistant experience with demonstrated competency in the job duties listed above - preferredLicenses and CertificationsPhlebotomy Certification CA - Upon Hire minimum State of California CDPH LFSBasic Life Support (BLS) - 60 Days, minimum Must be issued by American Heart AssociationAbout UsCedars-Sinai is a leader in providing high-quality healthcare encompassing primary care, specialized medicine and research.
