Sanford Health is seeking a Medical Geneticist to join their expanding and collaborative specialty team at Sanford Children's Hospital in Fargo, ND. This role offers the opportunity to practice general medical genetics, with potential involvement in newborn screening and the management of metabolic disorders in both children and adults. The successful candidate will join a supportive environment with a large team of pediatric specialists.

Practice Info

  • Join a growing and highly collaborative specialty team at Sanford Children's Hospital in Fargo, ND
  • Current genetics team includes one medical geneticist, eight genetic counselors, two nurse navigators, dietitians, medical assistants, and other support staff
  • Primary area of practice in general medical genetics
  • Opportunity for involvement in newborn screening and management of children and adults with inborn metabolic disorders
  • Support from a team of more than 65 board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatricians and pediatric specialists

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examination
  • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment of patients of all ages with genetic or possibly genetically linked diseases or disorders
  • Utilize molecular genetics, cytogenetic, radiologic, and biochemical testing to assist in specialized genetic counseling
  • Implement needed therapeutic interventions and prevention through prenatal diagnosis

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Successful completion of an ACGME-residency program in a primary medical specialty followed by successful completion of an accredited ACGME residency in clinical medical genetics OR Successful completion of a four-year ACGME accredited residency program in clinical medical genetics
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable
  • If not board certified at the time of application but completed residency training within the last five years, must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of residency training
  • Demonstrate active involvement in 25 Medical Genetics cases in the past 12 months (for applicants not directly out of residency or fellowship)
