MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Primary source verified Doctor of Medicine of Osteopathy degree and completed residency. A North Carolina privilege license is required by the state of NC and must be posted in the provider's office.
Controlled Substance Registration Certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA certificate) is required and must be kept current. All medical providers shall be board certified or board eligible with certification pending.
Advance Cardiac Life Support certification is required and should be renewed every 2 years.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: There are administrative and supervisory responsibilities related to Medical Directorship. The Medical Director has primary responsibility for developing and monitoring the goals and objectives of the annual Health Care Plan, supervision of provider staff and oversight of clinical functions. The Medical Director also serves as Laboratory Director and is the direct supervisor of the Lab Supervisor.
Clinical Responsibilities of a staff provider deliver the full range of ambulatory primary care services, including diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness in all age groups, preventative and well childcare, minor surgical procedures, and occasional medical emergencies. The providers are responsible for seeing their scheduled patients as well as providing coverage during the operating hours of the Center, providing telephone consultation as needed, performing administrative tasks associated with the provisions of medical care, participating in quality improvement activities, and providing community service. Medical providers are expected to manage all patients and conditions within the scope of their training and approved privilege.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Patient Care
- a. Assess individual patient conditions utilizing clinical observation, medical record, verbal information, and interaction with patient/family.
- b. Identifies the impact of cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient condition and makes accommodations for such differences.
- c. Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivery of services to patients of the age groups served. (Pediatric/Adolescent/Adult/Geriatric)
- d. Demonstrates the ability to utilize medical knowledge and sound judgment to appropriately diagnose and treat patients according to the patient's age, within scope of training and approved privileges.
- e. Utilizes medical knowledge and sound judgment to appropriately prescribe medications, within scope of training and approved privileges.
- f. Thoroughly and accurately documents the patient encounter and updates pertinent medical record forms, utilizing PFMC approved formats.
- g. Appropriately refers patients for subspecialty care as needed.
- h. Rotates weekly telephone call responsibility, provides appropriate medical advice by telephone and documents telephone encounter.
- i. Documents patient care activities in legible, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
- j. Participates in Patient Centered Medical Home Care Team collaboration approach to patient care.
2. Physician Administrative Duties
- a. Addresses needs of patients in an accurate, thorough, and timely manner by (1) following up patient calls and taking appropriate action (2) completing patient forms related to medical conditions, care, etc.
- b. Reviews and signs dictated notes, lab test results, consult reports, and all other patient information, and takes appropriate action, according to PFMC protocols within established timeframes.
- c. Performs chart audits and peer reviews.
- d. Supervises midlevel providers and precepts medical students, PA students and NP students.
- e. Monitors medical records for completeness and accuracy.
3. Patient Education
- a. Ensures learning needs of patients/family are addressed and documented.
- b. Assesses the patient's ability to learn.
- c. Selects appropriate teaching method based on age, learning ability, and other pertinent factors.
- d. Explains procedures, treatments medication usage as appropriate.
