Medical Director – part time (6 hrs/week)

Medical Director – Parkersburg Correctional Center (Part time, 6 hrs/week)

Under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Regional Medical Director, the Site Medical Director is responsible for promoting and providing high‑quality medical care and working cooperatively with other medical professionals at the facility.

Position Summary

Responsible for maintaining utilization management and clinical practice standards, developing medical/clinical policies, and ensuring the highest level of medical quality and service at the assigned site. Utilizes electronic medical record systems as applicable.

Responsibilities

1. Participate in Clinical Case/Disease Management initiatives, including:
   • Treating patients with chronic disease.
   • Utilizing corporate clinical experts.
   • Reviewing patients for Collegial Review and presenting cases.
   • Managing chronic care clinics and sick call to avoid backlogs.
   • Ensuring appropriate infirmary care and supervising infirmary rounds.
   • Reviewing care plans for patients returning from hospitalizations, ER, and specialty care.
   • Signing off on labs daily.
2. Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to staff physicians and mid‑level providers.
3. Work closely with the site manager to ensure efficient patient care.
4. Respond to corporate, state‑wide, regional Medical Directors and site managers; check email at least twice daily and provide guidance.
5. Address medical grievances with assistance of Site Managers.
6. Communicate regularly with dentists, mental health professionals, and optometrists to develop a holistic approach.
7. Communicate clinical and administrative issues to Site Manager and Regional Medical Director quickly; develop corrective action plans for deficiencies.
8. Perform death and case reviews.
9. Conduct Peer Reviews on Medical Directors/providers from other facilities.
10. Participate in monthly reviews of off‑site care, DME utilization, provider prescriptive practice, laboratory, and X‑ray services with state‑wide and regional directives.
11. Meet with the Warden and AWP regularly and develop working relationships with security.
12. Assist Staffing in provider recruiting initiatives.
13. Participate in provider training and audits.
14. Ensure site clinical coverage and share after‑hours and weekend call duties.
15. Other duties as assigned by the state‑wide and regional Medical Directors.

Job Requirements

Licensure : Current West Virginia Medical license, West Virginia Controlled Substance license, DEA registration.

Certification : Current CPR certification required; CCHP certification preferred.

Education : Medical Degree required; Board certified or board eligible preferred.

Preferred Experience :

• Five (5) years of clinical experience.
• Prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
