Medical Director of Heart Failure Services

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Medical Director of Heart Failure Services to lead the growth and expansion of heart failure services across its system of 7 hospitals and multiple outpatient clinics. This role involves developing the Heart Failure Clinic, refining inpatient services, and evaluating patients for VAD support. The successful candidate will be part of Carilion Clinic's nationally recognized regional cardiac network, serving nearly one million residents of southwestern Virginia.

Practice Info

• Primary site for advanced therapies including LVAD will be Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), a 703-bed Level 1 Trauma/Academic/Tertiary Care Center.
• The Cardiovascular Institute will expand significantly with the opening of the new Crystal Spring Tower in 2025.
• The new tower will include 3 Cardiovascular operating rooms, 2 Endovascular operating rooms, 2 General Vascular operating rooms, 6 Cardiac Catheterization labs, 3 Electrophysiology labs, 76 Intensive Care and Progressive Care inpatient rooms, 46 Pre-and Post-care rooms, 5 Trauma bays, and 95 Dedicated ED beds.
• The Heart Failure Clinic will relocate to the Crystal Spring Tower and will include additional exam rooms, an outpatient infusion suite, and offices for physicians and APPs.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers and staff in further development of an outstanding Heart Failure Program.
• Continue development of the current Heart Failure Clinic to improve access and extend the scope of services.
• Identify patients at risk for mortality, hospital readmission, and other adverse events.
• Refine a comprehensive inpatient Heart Failure service including consultative, diagnostic and treatment services for high risk hospitalized patients.
• Evaluate patients for VAD support including long term/destination therapy and bridging support to transplantation.
• Coordinate care with neighboring transplantation centers.
• Provide formal and bedside teaching of Cardiology Fellows, Internal Medicine Residents and other learners.
• Participate in Research.

Compensation

• Min Starting Salary: $521,782
• Max Starting Salary: $672,302
• Eligible to participate in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus compensation programs to improve the minimum salary.

Requirements

• Board Certification in Cardiology.
• Board Certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.
