Medical Director of Heart Failure

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Medical Director of Heart Failure Services to lead and expand heart failure services across its system of 7 hospitals and multiple outpatient clinics. This role involves developing the Heart Failure Clinic, refining inpatient services, and coordinating care for advanced therapies. The successful candidate will join Carilion Clinic's nationally recognized regional cardiac network, serving nearly one million residents of southwestern Virginia.

Practice Info

• Primary site for advanced therapies including LVAD will be Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), a 703-bed Level 1 Trauma/Academic/Tertiary Care Center.
• The Director will strive to improve HF care across all clinical sites and across the continuum of disease severity.
• Part of Carilion Clinic's nationally recognized regional cardiac network with an established and growing Cardiology section.
• Supported by a large primary care and specialty referral base, serving nearly one million residents of southwestern Virginia.
• The Heart Failure Clinic will relocate to the Crystal Spring Tower in 2025, which will include additional exam rooms, an outpatient infusion suite, and physician/APP offices.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers and staff in further development of an outstanding Heart Failure Program.
• Continued development of the current Heart Failure Clinic to improve access and extend the scope of services.
• Identify patients at risk for mortality, hospital readmission, and other adverse events.
• Refinement of a comprehensive inpatient Heart Failure service including consultative, diagnostic and treatment services for high risk hospitalized patients.
• Evaluation of patients for VAD support including long term/destination therapy and bridging support to transplantation.
• Coordination of care with neighboring transplantation centers.
• Formal and bedside teaching of Cardiology Fellows, Internal Medicine Residents and other learners.
• Participation in Research.

Compensation

• Min Starting Salary: $521,782.
• Max Starting Salary: $672,302.
• Eligible to participate in the Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus compensation programs to improve the minimum salary.
• Historical averages of Tier 1 and Tier 2 bonus earnings are included in the maximum salary.

Requirements

• Board Certification in Cardiology.
• Board Certification in Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.
