Lake Cumberland Rheumatology (LC Rheumatology) was founded in 2009 to provide essential care for individuals with rheumatologic and auto-immune disorders in Central Kentucky. The practice has since expanded to serve patients across the entire state of Kentucky and Southern Indiana. LC Rheumatology has grown its services to include Infusion, X-Ray, Research, and Pharmacy, allowing patients to receive comprehensive rheumatology care in one coordinated setting. Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates commitment to the quality philosophy and values of the organization by maintaining established policies and procedures, organizational objectives, process improvement, and safety standards.
  2. Demonstrates courtesy in all interpersonal relations.
  3. Greets patients and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
  4. Facilitates patient flow by notifying the provider of patients’ arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and staff.
  5. Schedules appointments, routes calls, take messages, and returns calls as needed.
  6. Responsible for pre-certification and authorization of medical tests.
  7. Follows compliance with all laws, regulations, and guidelines of federal and state programs with an emphasis on prevention of fraud, waste and abuse.
  8. Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain sight and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.
  9. Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measures vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and documents all information in patient’s chart.
  10. Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients. Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples.
  11. Ensures all related reports, labs, prescribed medicines and related information is filed in patients’ medical records.
  12. Administers medications, education materials and treatments as directed.
  13. Communicates physician advice/instructions as directed within scope of practice.
  14. Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines.
  15. Must be able to assist physician in procedures.
  16. Must be able to assist physician in an emergency situation.
  17. All other duties as assigned by Practice Manager and/or provider(s).
  18. Knowledge in the administration and reconstituting of Sub Q, IM and major joint injections.
  19. Keep exam room stocked with supplies and keep track of items needing to be ordered.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology.
  2. Knowledge of health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions.
  3. Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment.
  4. Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
  5. Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
  6. Knowledge of EHRs.
  7. Skilled in written and verbal communication, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  8. Skilled in reading and following written and oral medical orders.
  9. Skilled in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
  10. Skilled in telephone etiquette, customer service, basic word and excel programs, time management, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organization and scheduling.
  11. Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
  12. Ability to perform mathematical calculations for drug dosages.
  13. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
  14. Ability to adapt to varying tasks and work situations.
  15. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion.


Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education/Experience Requirements:

a. High school diploma or equivalent, required.

b. Previous experience working in a medical office environment, preferred.

c. Minimum computer competency preferred and/or ability to be trained.

d. MA certification preferred but not required.

e. CPR certification through AHA required.


Equipment Operated:

Phone, computer, medical charts, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and other nursing items. May involve use of walkers, wheelchairs, pulse oximetry, and oxygen tanks.


Physical and Mental Requirements:

a. Daily standing, sitting, squatting, stooping, walking, bending, maneuvering balancing, kneeling, lifting.

b. Finger dexterity, clerical perception,


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Controlled environmental setting (lighting, temperature, air quality, acoustics).

EXPOSURE RISK:

Category I - Tasks that involve anticipated contact with blood, body fluids or tissue. Medical exam and treatment rooms and medical offices. Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
