Summary: The Lakeview Media Center Paraprofessional supports the daily operation of the Media Center and helps create a welcoming, organized, and engaging environment for students and staff. This position assists students in using library resources, promotes a love of reading, supports library instruction, maintains library materials and spaces, and provides general support to students. The Media Center Paraprofessional also helps students in the library stay on task and may provide academic support in reading and/or math as assigned.

The Media Center Paraprofessional also helps students in the library stay on task and may provide academic support in reading and/or math as assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The Media Center Paraprofessional may be responsible for the following:
- Teach and support students in using the Library Media Center, including library expectations, areas of the library, book searches, research skills, and appropriate use of resources.
- Meet with kindergarten classes and use the established lesson plan format to support library instruction.
- Assist students in locating books and materials that match their interests, needs, and reading levels.
- Create excitement around books and reading through positive student interactions.
- Communicate with and assist teachers, students, and parents in a professional and helpful manner.
- Check in with high school students using the library and help keep students focused and on task.
- Assist students with reading and/or math support and instruction as assigned.
- Shelve books and materials in proper order.
- Straighten books, magazines, chairs, stools, and other library areas to maintain an organized space.
- Repair, clean, and maintain books and library materials.
- Use and learn components of the Follett Destiny library system.
- Create and share book notices two times per month.
- Laminate materials for staff and school use.
- Load the printer and ensure paper is available.
- Contact technology support for printer or computer maintenance needs.
- Wipe and sanitize library tables.
- Dust shelves and library areas and vacuum weekly.
- Assist the Literacy Coordinator with tasks as needed.
- Assist with providing testing accommodations (quiet setting, read aloud) for students on 504 Plans.
- Provide interventions as determined by Literacy Coordinator, Elementary Principal, or Secondary Principal
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Literacy Coordinator, Elementary Principal, or Secondary Principal
Qualifications:
- Meet one of the following:
- Two years of college credits through an accredited institution, or
- Associate degree or higher, or
- Passing score on an approved formal academic assessment
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
- High energy person, enthusiastic, dedicated, and committed to educating every student to their full potential
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proactive thinker and problem solver
