Overview
This role lives within the System Electronics Mechanical team. This team is responsible for designing the pilot inceptors, air data probe, and numerous computer assemblies across the S4, as well as mechanically designing next-generation perception suites for enabling autonomy for future aircraft. We’re seeking a passionate, hands-on, and fundamentally strong engineer to own designs from concept to certification, work cross-functionally to optimize vehicle-level solutions, and ensure the safe, lightweight, and reliable delivery of electromechanical assemblies to aircraft.
Responsibilities
Own designs from concept to certification, including:Rapid prototyping and development testingMass optimization, stress analysis, and thermal analysisTroubleshooting issues in manufacturing, testing, and in the fieldDriving system safety, reliability, requirements, and integration considerationsDesigning for manufacturability and cost at the component and assembly levelsCommunicate design risks, complex concepts, and data clearly and honestlyCollaborate effectively and with humility across multiple areas of expertise
Required
B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) with 5+ years of relevant industry experience (or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience)Proficiency with CAD (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) for complex surfacing, part design, and assembliesStrong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, heat transfer, and materials science

Familiarity with DO-160G mechanical requirements for aerospace applicationsFamiliarity with both low-voltage and high-voltage electromechanical designsExperience with finite element analysis (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys, SolidWorks)

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
