We're looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Project Engineering team and play a key role in designing and delivering fully automated machining systems for our customers.If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, working hands-on with automation, and seeing your designs come to life—this is a great opportunity to make an impact.What You'll DoAs a Mechanical Project Engineer, you'll lead the design and execution of automation systems that integrate Makino machining centers with robotics and material handling solutions.Key responsibilities include:Design automation equipment such as end-of-arm tooling, conveyors, safety systems, and system layoutsDevelop complete design packages (3D models, drawings, BOMs, documentation)Perform mechanical analysis (tolerance stack-ups, stress, deflection, etc.)Conduct robot reach studies and support system layout developmentPartner with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and customers from concept through final system acceptanceSupport fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting of automated systemsLead design reviews and contribute to project cost estimates and proposalsTroubleshoot technical issues and provide practical, cost-effective solutionsStay current on emerging automation technologies and recommend design improvementsWhat You BringBachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or equivalent technical experience7+ years of mechanical design experience, including automation systemsStrong experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)Background in designing machinery, automation systems, or robotic integrationKnowledge of pneumatic systems, mechanical components, and system designFamiliarity with industry standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO, CE, RIA)Experience troubleshooting and solving complex engineering problemsAbility to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentStrong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionallyWillingness to travel up to 10%At Makino, we invest in our people—offering competitive pay, strong benefits, and opportunities to grow your career while working with industry-leading technology.
