Mechanical Project DesignerIMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Designer in Germantown, MD, to lead design efforts for low- to moderate-complexity projects and support the delivery of larger, more complex projects in collaboration with senior staff. This role works closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, with primary responsibility for the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You'll also work within project budgets and train, mentor, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead design efforts for the analysis and design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systemsCreate detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standardsPartner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong working relationshipsSupport project execution by leading planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to meet deadlines and objectivesDocument design decisions, client instructions, project progress, percent complete, and fee expendedAnalyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultantsPerform in-process design reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications while applying IMEG quality control processesStay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, and contribute to research, development, and innovation effortsPrioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with mechanical systemsCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams, identify potential project issues, and support projects through bidding and construction administrationRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent requiredEngineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification preferred5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry ORAssociates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred9 years of experience minimum required, 10 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industryDue to federal contract requirements, this position requires U.S. citizenshipProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsStrong training and mentoring skillsProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join UsIMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
