Mechanical Lead - Data Center Construction


Location: Lubbock, TX


Job Type: Contract or Direct Hire


About the Opportunity


We are seeking a Mechanical Lead to oversee the mechanical scope of large-scale data center construction projects. This individual will serve as the owner's representative for mechanical systems and provide technical leadership throughout design, construction, commissioning, and project turnover.


This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial construction, power generation, manufacturing, EPC projects, or other large-scale construction environments.


Key Responsibilities



  • Lead the mechanical scope from design through project completion.

  • Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, commissioning teams, and project stakeholders.

  • Review designs for constructability, code compliance, reliability, and quality standards.

  • Oversee installation and execution of:

  • Chilled water systems

  • HVAC systems

  • CRAH/CRAC units

  • Mechanical piping and pumping systems

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and field challenges.

  • Monitor contractor performance related to safety, quality, cost, and schedule.

  • Participate in site inspections, audits, commissioning, and turnover activities.

  • Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical, structural, and commissioning teams.

  • Support planning, procurement, scheduling, budgeting, and forecasting efforts.

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, construction management, project engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of:

  • HVAC systems

  • Thermal management

  • Hydronic systems

  • Mechanical piping

  • Cooling infrastructure

  • Experience supporting large-scale industrial, manufacturing, energy, mission-critical, commercial, or data center projects.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience working with engineering firms, EPCs, and construction contractors.

  • 40-hour work week with overtime potential as project demands increase

  • Per diem and phone allowance

  • Mobilization and demobilization assistance provided

  • Potential for future conversion to a permanent role
