Mechanical Engineering Professional Senior – Direct HIRE in Energy and Power Design/Consulting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- At least 10 years of engineering design and consulting experience
- Professional Engineering licensure is REQUIRED (any US state); EITs are not eligible
- Proven ability to engage with clients, develop relationships, win work, and deliver innovative solutions providing value to both client and provider
- Experience in business growth strategy, including exploration and development of new project opportunities and knowledge of new/emerging technologies
- Experience with proposal development and project execution planning, including scope development and man-hour estimates for engineering services
- Passion for mentoring and developing junior technical staff
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Availability to travel as required to support project needs (typically around 25%)
- Availability to work at least 2 days per week in the Cary, NC office when not travelling
- Must be a US citizen due to potential for federal work
- Consistent work history with minimal employer changes

MUST have prior experience with:
- Thermal utility plants and distribution systems (steam, condensate, hot water, chilled water)
- Utility master planning or decarbonization/climate response planning
- Cogeneration or combined heat and power systems
- Natural gas fueled prime power (gas turbine or large reciprocating engines)
- Heat pump/heat recovery chillers
- Thermal energy networks, geothermal exchange systems, power generation (e.g., geothermal power)
- Consulting experience in energy design, utility plant design, central utility plants
- Prior personnel management (3-10 direct reports)
Responsibilities
- Lead a mechanical engineering team to provide advisory services and engineering design solutions as they relate to energy and power for clients across market sectors (aviation, education, hospitals, airports, federal projects). Example: design central utility plants or backup power solutions for facilities.
- Collaborate with client account managers and sales professionals on pursuits of strategic importance to the firm.
- Mentor and potentially manage junior and mid-level mechanical engineering staff.
- Strategic activities include strategy formation, business development, and sales as the energy transition portfolio expands.
- Demonstrate broad understanding of mechanical and process engineering disciplines; experience with owner\'s engineer roles, contract management, advisory (technical advisor/due diligence) roles, and strategic project development.
- Focus on providing advisory services and engineering design solutions for energy and power projects across all market sectors.
- Collaborate with client account managers and sales teams on pursuits of strategic importance to the firm.
- Demonstrate highly collaborative communication and problem-solving skills to manage large teams and project delivery.
- This is a hybrid work-from-home position requiring regular presence in the Cary, NC office (at least 2 days per week). Fully remote is not acceptable.
