Job Description:
- This is a dual role manager and engineer position.
- It requires a leader that can staff, develop, and drive a team of both engineers and designers to accomplish program work.
- This individual will also apply mechanical engineering principles to design and maintain the company's FOS product lines during new product design, development, and sustain production across a multidisciplinary team.
- This individual must be able to work within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications.
- In addition, this role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to troubleshoot issues, document changes, and adhere to AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards.
Essential Functions:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designers
- Support hiring, workforce planning, and performance management
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and continuous improvement culture
- Provide inputs (material and labor estimates, technical content) for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
- Define, maintain, and improve the department’s development processes and best practices
- Serve as lead mechanical engineer, responsible for design integrity and product performance and compliance
- Drive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product support
- Develop and refine mechanical designs in accordance with internal standards and customer specifications
- Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performance
- Perform engineering calculations and collaborate with analysts to validate designs (FEA, thermal, shock/vibration)
- Define and execute design verification strategies (shock, vibration, thermal, acceleration, etc.)
- Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviews
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standards
- Support production by troubleshooting issues, implementing design updates, and improving processes
- Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actions
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance which requires you to be a U.S. Citizen
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Professional experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX etc
- Professional experience with GD&T application and interpretation according to ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100
- Professional experience with dimensional stack-up/tolerance analysis
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Strong fundamentals in mechanics, vibration, fatigue, and thermal concepts
- Experience with DFMA and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems and working in a regulated environment
- Experience with FEA tools and test validation methods
- Advanced degree (MS) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- An active DOD Secret Security Clearance
