In this role, you will take ownership of the machine and assembly shop, ensuring it is well-maintained, organized, and stocked. You will work collaboratively with the Mechanical team for the in house prototyping of parts, create fixtures for the Design team, and support the Manufacturing team with part reworks or assembly fixtures.
On a daily basis you will primarily be interacting with the Mechanical engineering team, therefore strong communication skills and ability to communicate technical part machining information are necessary. This is an hourly position for an individual contributor role reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.Salary Range: $35/hr-$38/hrWhat You Need (Requirements):High School diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or technical certificate in engineering technology, or a related field is preferredMachine shop skills: experience including but not limited to mills, lathes, laser cutter, drill press, bandsaw, dremel, jigsaw, sawsall2 – 5 years hands on experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment preferredStrong work ethic and a go-getter attitude; able to work independentlyEagerness and willingness to learn new skills and new toolsAbility to interpret 2D engineering drawings to ensure part complianceCAD experience is a plusMust be able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds as well as stand for long periods of timeApplicants will be asked to provide a portfolio or examples of projects completed.What You'll Do (Responsibilities):Daily work on the mill, lathe, metal saw, and precision measuringMill work for aluminum hog out parts or unique prototype to match drawing spec provided from engineeringLathe work for precision steel drive shafts for prototyping purposesCreate basic carpentry structures for pseudo rooms / wall fixtures for robot behavioral studies based on sketchesMaintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition; General shop upkeepOwnership of the machine shop spaceManage inventory of tools, hardware, shop supplies, etc.Utilize purchase request system to keep MDF stocked, coordinate basic hardware orders for shop nuts & bolts bins, order parts for machine repairsPerform routine maintenance on shop equipment to ensure in good working orderSafety training for using equipment (mill, lathe, bandsaw); assist in general safety knowledge outside of machine guards and for eye wash stations and fire extinguishers locationsAssembly and disassembly of complex mechanical mechanisms, including test fixturesOther responsibilities as neededDiversity fuels our innovation.
