Mechanical Engineer PositionSince 1985, Data Security, Inc.® has been the world leader of National Security Agency (NSA) evaluated products for digital data destruction; through innovative design, we hold many patents. We are a small, locally owned and operated company, with a global customer base and a global impact on data security.The Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for the design of mechanical and electromechanical subsystems and products.

Through innovation, efficiency and principled design practices, this position works as a member of the engineering team to fulfill market driven needs.Essential FunctionsWork with engineering team, vendors and internal customers to develop mechanical and electromechanical products for industrial and commercial applicationsConduct research and analyze data and specifications to evaluate the feasibility, design, operation, performance, cost and requirements of new product designsPrepare, review and revise documents related to product designs, revisions and production proceduresAssure product quality by developing inspection and test protocolsMaintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulationsIdentify and follow workplace and product safety requirements and proceduresProvide information and support to the Manufacturing, Sales, and Service teamsOther duties as assigned by the Engineering ManagerCompetenciesKnowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost/benefits analysis to maximize the effective manufacture of products.Knowledge of 3D printing design criteria and limitationsBasic electrical/electronic/magnetic knowledgeExperience with 3D modeling software to design, assembly, and modify product designsExperience with mechanical system design and analysis involving motion and mechanisms, media handling, sensor technologies, and automationBasic skills with machine tool operation and assembly skills with hand toolsExperience using Microsoft Office Applications for managing and documenting projectsAbility to use/learn Manufacturing Resources Planning for item definition and bill of material entryAbility to read and interpret data sheets to match best available parts to new product requirementsOutstanding written and oral communication skillsMust be a team player, self-motivated, dependable and dedicatedAbility to manage one's own time and the time of othersAbility to use "critical thinking" in solving problemsAbility to use active listening when communicating with othersWork EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment, a manufacturing floor, and an engineering lab.Physical DemandsWhile performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand. The employee is occasionally required to bend, twist or reach as well as lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

While travel is rare, must be willing to travel/work outside of normal business hours.Required Education and ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Mechanical EngineeringPreferred Education and Experience· 2+ years experience in mechanical design· Experience with Autodesk Inventor· Experience with 3D printing and specifically Bambu Labs printers· Experience using manually operated mill and/or lathe
