Job Description
Eurofins Food & Feed Testing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop practical engineering solutions that eliminate workplace hazards across our laboratory network.
This position focuses on designing, validating, and implementing engineered solutions that enhance employee safety while maintaining (or improving) process quality and operational performance. Working closely with laboratory operations, maintenance teams, quality personnel, and EHS professionals, the Mechanical Engineer will transform identified hazards and operational challenges into scalable engineering controls that can be deployed across multiple laboratories. This role is a cornerstone of Eurofins' commitment to achieving best-in-class OSHA safety performance across our Eurofins Food & Feed Testing network.
The ideal candidate enjoys solving real‑world problems through engineering design, prototyping, equipment modification, ergonomics, automation, and process improvement. Success in this role will be measured by the quality, effectiveness, and adoption of engineered solutions that reduce employee exposure to risk while supporting efficient laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop engineering controls that eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles to improve safety, ergonomics, material handling, and equipment operation.
- Develop solutions including mechanical lifting and handling devices, ergonomic workstation improvements, equipment modifications, custom fixtures and tooling, machine guarding and protective systems, automated handling solutions, process redesigns, and specialized laboratory equipment.
- Lead projects from concept through implementation: create engineering drawings, specifications, design packages, develop prototypes and proof‑of‑concept solutions, perform testing and validation activities, troubleshoot design challenges, and support installation, startup, and deployment.
- Drive enterprise improvements by evaluating recurring hazards across multiple laboratories, developing standardized engineering solutions, creating implementation guides, engineering standards, and best practices, and partnering with operations teams.
- Manage projects by developing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and implementation plans; coordinating activities with equipment suppliers, fabricators, machine shops, contractors, and internal stakeholders; supporting capital project development; and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related course of study.
- 5+ years of engineering experience involving equipment design, product development, manufacturing systems, process improvement, automation, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience taking projects from concept through implementation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem‑solving skills.
- Experience working with fabrication vendors, machine shops, equipment suppliers, or maintenance organizations.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Experience with prototyping and product development.
- Experience with ergonomics, human factors engineering, or material handling systems.
- Experience in laboratory, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, industrial, or regulated environments.
- Familiarity with automation, robotics, machine guarding, or industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with validation activities and change management processes.
