A Day in the Life of the Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll develop production-ready engineering for custom exhibits, retail fixtures, branded environments, and experiential displays, taking each project from design through fabrication and installation. You'll work with wood, millwork, metal, hardware, lighting, and specialty components, creating shop drawings, BOMs, and CNC files that bring ideas to life. This hands-on role splits time between the office and the production floor, where you'll partner with fabrication and installation teams to make sure every project is built right, on time, and on budget. Your work directly shapes the high-quality, eye-catching environments that Mack Studios delivers to its clients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop production-ready engineering for custom millwork, metal fabrication, fixtures, exhibits, and displays
  • Create detailed shop drawings, production and assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and fabrication packages
  • Engineer components and assemblies using wood, plywood, MDF, laminates, steel, aluminum, plastics, and specialty materials
  • Create CNC router and laser programming files for wood and metal fabrication using Mastercam
  • Translate architectural drawings, design concepts, and project specifications into accurate, manufacturable designs
  • Select appropriate hardware, fasteners, connection methods, structural supports, and assembly methods
  • Incorporate lighting, wiring pathways, and electrical or interactive components into designs as needed
  • Engineer projects with consideration for materials, tolerances, fabrication methods, assembly, shipping, and installation
  • Collaborate with project management, design, estimating, purchasing, graphics, fabrication, and installation teams
  • Provide hands-on technical support to woodworking, CNC, metal fabrication, and assembly teams during production
  • Troubleshoot fabrication, fit, assembly, and installation issues and make engineering revisions as needed
  • Communicate with vendors and outside fabricators regarding materials, hardware, and specialty components
  • Participate in project kickoffs, prototype and mockup development, field measurements, and installations
  • Manage workload and priorities to meet project specifications, budgets, and production schedules
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of hands-on engineering experience in custom fabrication, millwork, architectural woodwork, metal fabrication, retail fixtures, exhibits, displays, or a related manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or similar 2D/3D CAD engineering software
  • Experience with Mastercam programming.
  • Strong working knowledge of woodworking, millwork, and metal fabrication
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with both office and production personnel
  • Comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments, with regular time on the production floor
