Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer III to support gas turbine rotor design and analysis activities for a one-year contract engagement. This role requires strong experience in mechanical design, structural analysis, and cross-functional engineering collaboration within turbine or heavy rotating equipment environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute 2D and 3D finite element analyses (FEA) of gas turbine rotor components using Ansys
- Perform post-processing analyses including:
- Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) crack initiation and propagation
- Bolted joint behavior and strength evaluations
- Structural integrity assessments
- Retrieve and manage CAD models from PLM systems
- Modify and develop CAD models using Siemens NX
- Support design changes, defect evaluation, and root cause investigations
- Document and summarize analytical results with clear engineering justifications
- Support automation of repetitive engineering tasks using Python (as needed)
- Present technical findings during routine project review meetings
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 6+ years of relevant mechanical design and analysis experience
- Hands-on experience with Ansys for structural and rotor FEA
- Strong proficiency in Siemens NX
- Experience with fatigue analysis, bolted joint design, and rotating equipment
- Ability to independently lead design tasks and provide technical direction
- Experience in gas turbine or heavy industrial equipment design
- Familiarity with PLM systems
- Working knowledge of Python for automation
