Job Description
3D As-Built Modeling in Revit
Create, develop, and maintain data-rich, highly accurate 3D as-built BIM models of mechanical and piping systems (HVAC ductwork, plumbing, process piping, equipment, and related components) in Autodesk Revit.
Convert laser scans, point clouds, photogrammetry, and field measurements into detailed, coordinated 3D Revit models of existing Tesla facilities.
Set the course for 3D as-built digital delivery on large, fast-paced projects — working with multi-discipline leads from existing-conditions capture through model completion, verification, and hand-over.
Technology, Automation & 3D Innovation
Be part of a team that develops and implements 3D BIM technologies, including Tesla-exclusive tools for scan-to-BIM and as-built modeling.
Develop custom scripts, plugins, and automated workflows using C#, Dynamo, Python, Revit API, and other tools to accelerate 3D as-built modeling, reduce manual effort, and improve accuracy of mechanical/piping geometry.
Standards, Coordination & 3D Quality
Develop and enforce 3D as-built BIM standards, Revit templates, families, naming conventions, and execution plans focused on mechanical and piping modeling.
Conduct 3D model audits, geometry checks, and clash detection (especially mechanical-piping vs. other disciplines) to ensure as-built accuracy and coordination.
Manage Common Data Environments (CDE) and ensure proper exchange of 3D as-built models and point-cloud data.
Skills and Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
Experience: 3+ years of hands-on 3D modeling experience producing as-built mechanical and piping systems in Revit for high-tech infrastructure and operational facilities (semiconductor, solar, battery, manufacturing, etc.).
Proven expertise in:
- Autodesk Revit (advanced 3D modeling, Revit MEP, family creation, and as-built documentation of HVAC, plumbing, and piping)
- Point-cloud / scan-to-BIM workflows in Revit
- BIM and parametric 3D design for mechanical systems
- Knowledge of cloud-based BIM platforms (Autodesk Construction Cloud / Forma, BIM 360).
Ability to manage multiple 3D modeling priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of BIM standards and as-built modeling frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications
- AutoCAD (including AutoCAD MEP)
- IFC and 3D data interoperability
- Experience with coding and visual programming (C#, Python, Dynamo, pyRevit) to automate 3D as-built modeling.
- Experience with Revit API development and custom plugins for mechanical/piping as-builts.
- Familiarity with database integrations, Power BI, or data visualization from 3D models.
- Experience with automation workflows for scan-to-Revit processes.
- Reality-capture skills (laser scanning, point clouds, photogrammetry, Recap) specifically for as-built mechanical systems.
- Experience with digital twins.
- Knowledge of piping design tools and relevant codes/standards (ASME, etc.).
