Mechanical AssemblerThis role involves first-shift mechanical assembly work in the AC, DC, and wire departments, building solar panel power boxes and switchboards in a large, clean, and quiet manufacturing facility. You will work on a non-automated assembly line using hand tools, air-powered tools, and torque wrenches to assemble components according to prints and specifications. The position offers consistent full-time hours with opportunities to become cross-trained across multiple areas, including wire spooling and panel assembly.ResponsibilitiesAssemble solar panel power boxes and switchboards using mechanical components, wire, and hardware.Work in the AC, DC, and wire departments, becoming cross-trained to support multiple areas as needed.Pull and spool wire according to daily job setups and production requirements.Read and interpret prints to determine correct placement of parts and routing of wires in the back of panels.Follow daily job setups where panel boxes, switchboards, wire, and related components are pre-staged for assembly.Use hand tools, air power tools, and torque wrenches to screw in screws, nuts, and bolts and secure components.Strip wires into metal plates and assemble them into power boxes and switchboards according to specifications.Work as part of a small team on a non-automated assembly line and during wire spooling operations.Remain in a designated work area for the shift, focusing either on wire spooling or mechanical assembly tasks.Meet production expectations by assembling up to 64 panels per day once fully trained and up to speed.Handle materials and components safely, including lifting items up to 40 pounds as needed.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in alignment with facility standards.Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment.Participate in on-the-job training and apply feedback to improve speed, accuracy, and quality.Communicate effectively with team members and leads to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of jobs.Essential SkillsAbility to read and interpret basic prints and assembly diagrams (including simple, step-based layouts).Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.Experience using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and similar equipment.Capability to lift and move up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly during the shift.Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working in a hands-on, assembly-focused environment.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work within a structured production process.Willingness to work first shift with a schedule of four 10-hour days plus potential overtime on Friday.Comfort working as part of a team on an assembly line and coordinating tasks with others.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience using a foot pedal crimper.Experience with pneumatic tools.Previous mechanical assembly, wiring, or manufacturing experience.Familiarity with power tools and torque wrenches.Comfort working in a non-temperature-controlled environment with fans.Interest in learning new mechanical and electrical assembly skills through on-the-job training.Why Work Here?The facility offers a very clean, team-oriented, and laid-back culture where employees can learn on the job and grow their skills. You will work first shift on a schedule of four 10-hour days (Monday through Thursday), with potential overtime on Friday; overtime decisions are communicated on Wednesday mornings. The team typically works four 10-hour days plus approximately five hours on Friday, with a recent history of 40 to 45 hours per week. The shop is not temperature controlled but uses fans for air circulation. Teams are small, generally four to six people, with about 20 people on first shift, and the operation is in the process of expanding with an additional shift. The work involves manual labor, including lifting up to 40 pounds, and requires standing and working at an assembly line or wire spooling station throughout the day. The dress code is casual but safety-focused: shirts must have sleeves (short or long), shorts or pants are allowed as long as they have no holes, and steel-toe boots are required. Safety glasses and gloves are provided when needed. Employees may wear headphones with one earbud during work, contributing to a relaxed yet productive atmosphere while maintaining safety and teamwork.Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Walker, MI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
