Locums Maternal-Fetal Medicine - Detroit, Michigan Availability & Contract
  • Start Date: January 1, 2027
  • Initial Coverage: Full-time through approximately January 24, 2027
  • After January: Part-time/recurring coverage approximately twice monthly
  • Recurring Schedule: In-house Thursday-Friday; Saturday-Sunday call
  • Primary Location: Detroit, Michigan
  • Additional Coverage: Potential outpatient-only coverage in Warren, Michigan as needed
    • Tuesdays/Thursdays
    • Half-day shifts
  • Weekday Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • Call: Weeknight and weekend call coverage
  • Weekend Coverage: Required
  • Callback: Very minimal, approximately 1 per call shift, if any
  • Locum-to-Perm: Candidates interested in locum-to-perm are welcome and given first preference
License & Credentialing
  • Board Certification: Required
  • Michigan Medical License: Required
  • IMLC: Accepted
  • BLS: Required
  • ACLS: Required
Clinical Details
  • Specialty: Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Setting: Level III NICU
  • Inpatient/L&D Volume: 0-5 patients per day; average approximately 2
  • Annual Deliveries: Approximately 3,000
  • Patient Population: High-risk and low-risk obstetric patients
  • MFM Service: Inpatient consults, maternal-fetal medicine rounding, ultrasound, and high-risk OB clinic
  • Ultrasound: 1 sonographer, 1 machine, up to 8 ultrasounds per day
  • High-Risk OB Clinic: Half-day per week; typically 4-7 patients
  • Beds: 772
  • Reason for Coverage: Provider departure
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Review and round on inpatient MFM patients with residents
  • Provide inpatient and phone consultations
  • Perform in-person evaluations when clinically needed
  • Supervise residents in high-risk OB clinic as needed
  • Interpret and manage ultrasound services and related consultations
  • Expected to independently interpret ultrasounds
  • Weekday in-house coverage for outpatient ultrasound and inpatient consultation needs
  • Night and weekend call coverage, including phone consultations
  • No delivery coverage expected
  • No GYN surgery
  • No GYN call coverage
Required Procedures
  • Amniocentesis
  • Cerclage, including rescue cerclage
  • External cephalic version (ECV)
Preferred Procedure
  • Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
