Five Star is looking for a Materials & Process Engineer - Composites who wants to be close to the product, the manufacturing process, and the action. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving problems on the manufacturing floor, developing better composite processes, and turning ideas into production-ready solutions. Working alongside Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and our suppliers, you'll take ownership of materials and process challenges that directly impact product performance, quality, cost, and manufacturing efficiency.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and improve composite materials and manufacturing processes
- Support new product development, laminate reviews, and production launches
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and help identify root causes
- Evaluate resins, fabrics, materials, and new manufacturing technologies
- Coordinate material testing, qualification, and validation
- Develop SOPs, work instructions, laminate schedules, and process standards
- Support processes including infusion, hand layup, vacuum bagging, prepreg, thermoset, and thermoplastic systems
- Work directly with suppliers on materials, tooling, and technical issues
- Assist with mold, fixture, and tooling development
- Analyze test and manufacturing data and recommend improvements
- Support continuous improvement efforts for quality, cost, and manufacturing efficiency
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Composite Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field
- 2–5 years of hands-on composites, materials, or manufacturing experience
- Working knowledge of polymers, resins, fabrics, and composite manufacturing
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working both at a desk and on the manufacturing floor
- Self-motivated and able to take ownership of projects with guidance from the team
- Good communication, organization, and follow-through
- CAD, FEA, Lean Manufacturing, or ISO 9001 experience is a plus
