Research ScientistAV has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our ceramics and composites team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The position focuses on basic and applied research projects involving characterization and processing of ceramics and ceramic composites. Primary research responsibilities will be to support the production of new ceramic powders, sinter samples and layup composites. The position requires working closely with government and contract researchers within the research team and with other research teams.

We are particularly interested in a highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individual with a BS or MS in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.Requirements:This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. CitizenshipBS or MS in Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Ceramic Engineering or a related fieldExperience with materials processing and characterizationAbility to learn and develop new approaches and techniquesExcellent oral and written communication skillsThis position will require a self-motivated individual with good interpersonal skills and careful attention to detailsAdaptable to varying program objectivesDesired Qualifications:Experience with ceramic and/or composite processing and characterizationPowder processing, sintering, and characterization.Experience with inert environment experimentation such as working in a glovebox or conducting air-free synthesis.Experience with SEMs, TEMs, sample polishing, TGA, XRD, rheometry and/or dilatometry.ITAR Requirement: This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations ("ITAR") and/or the Export Administration Regulations ("EAR"). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants will be asked to provide specific documentation to verify U.S. person status under the ITAR and the EAR.

A "U.S. person" according to their definition is a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or protected individual such as a refugee, or asylee.
