Job Title: Material Handler

Job Description

The Material Handler accurately pulls and stages materials for production and customer orders, supports shipping and receiving activities, and maintains precise inventory records in a clean and safety-focused manufacturing environment. This role operates forklifts, high bay equipment, and pallet jacks to move materials efficiently, while ensuring compliance with quality, transportation, and hazardous material requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Pull required materials for production orders, customer sales orders, and miscellaneous requests accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Utilize forklifts and high bay forklifts to move, stage, and store materials safely and efficiently.

  • Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including preparing outbound shipments and handling inbound deliveries.

  • Receive, count, and verify incoming materials from vendors, completed shop orders, and materials returned to the stockroom or warehouse.

  • Identify lot sizes and ensure all materials and supplies are placed in their appropriate locations within the warehouse or stockroom.

  • Maintain control and accuracy of material and inventory records using manual and computer-based systems.

  • Assign and issue production orders in alignment with customer needs and production schedules.

  • Communicate and coordinate material status information with planners and manufacturing departments to support on-time customer shipments.

  • Perform loading and unloading of trucks in accordance with quality standards, Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines, and hazardous waste requirements.

  • Understand and follow emergency response procedures in the event of a spill or hazardous material incident.

  • Move products using pallet jacks and other material handling equipment as needed.

  • Support overall warehouse organization, ensuring materials are stored neatly and safely to maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of warehouse experience, including hands-on material handling responsibilities.

  • At least 1 year of forklift operation experience in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.

  • At least 6 months of experience operating a cherry picker or high bay forklift.

  • Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes, including preparing and handling outbound and inbound materials.

  • Experience working in a warehouse environment with a focus on inventory accuracy and organization.

  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and other standard material handling equipment safely.

  • Familiarity with using manual or computer-based systems to maintain and update inventory records.

  • Capability to follow quality, DOT, and hazardous waste requirements when loading and unloading trucks.

  • Strong attention to detail when counting, verifying, and placing materials in designated locations.

  • Effective communication skills to coordinate material status with planners and manufacturing departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using shipping software such as UPS WorldShip and FedEx systems.

  • Knowledge of preparing and handling Bills of Lading (BOL) for outbound shipments.

  • Experience in working within a clean manufacturing or large warehouse facility.

  • Comfort working with structured processes and safety procedures related to hazardous materials and spill response.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced production and warehouse environment.

Work Environment

Safety procedures, including emergency response protocols for spills, are an integral part of daily operations. The work involves standing, walking, and operating equipment throughout the shift, with a focus on maintaining a tidy, organized, and safe workspace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minnetonka, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
