The Material Handler is responsible for all order picking, order verification and loading of customer or carriers' vehicle in a safe manner.
The ideal candidate thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities.Essential DutiesPractices incident and accident prevention, demonstrating safe behavior in all activitiesObtains and maintains fork-truck certification by attending in-house training, and completes daily fork truck check sheetsReplaces the forklift's liquefied propane gas (LP) tanksTroubleshoots work related issues and communicates issues with maintenance, Shipper/Receiver, and Logistics PlannerWorks safely, and is responsible for housekeeping in his/her work areas at all timesPrioritizes work assignments by meeting with Logistics Planner, Shipper/Receiver, and Logistics Supervisor every morning and throughout the dayDrives the fork truck safely through the warehouse mindful of pedestrian traffic at all timesParticipate in Cycle Counting events when needed, able to adjust schedule to meet inventory deadlinesShips according to FIFO principles on all items in the warehouse to ensure shelf-life efficacyPrepares product for shipping by reviewing the packing slip, hand picking the product and assembling the palletArranges material on flatbeds according to weight restrictions and driver input when loadingEnsures correct product delivery by reviewing packing slip and product on truckVerifies product quantity for shipment and receiving by counting and signing Picking Slip and Bill of LadingLearns safety hazards and job procedures by reading and understanding Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)Learns software programs by reading and understanding manuals and proceduresSuggests improvements in work methods and procedures by communicating to Logistics SupervisorWorks safely when loading and unloading van trailers; uses dock locks and chocks to hold trailer steady when going in and outVoluntarily learns hazardous material safety for spills and transporting material; earns HAZMAT certification and keeps currentObtains and maintains forklift certification by attending in house trainingTrouble shoots and communicates any work related issues with Logistics Supervisor, Manager of Manufacturing Technology, and/or Maintenance if neededPerforms other duties as instructed by the Logistics SupervisorDaily review of email and department communication; maintains a good attendance recordMaintains a positive working relationship with all plant employees and other business contactsUses process improvement tools to drive continuous improvement of the plant and business processesFollow and document Hazardous Materials Transportation Guidelines for all shipmentsObserve what needs to be done and take initiative to perform this workQualifications RequiredH.S.
