Material HandlerWe are currently recruiting a Material Handler to join our team in Commack, NY! The Material Handler will play a crucial role in supporting our Production and Warehouse departments. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a warehouse or manufacturing type of environment however; we are willing to train!Responsibilities:Reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributedConveys materials between buildings and departments as required for production.
Transports to storage or to other designated areasSorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product codeFills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to the production floorAssembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping departmentMarks materials with identifying informationOpens bales, crates, and other containersRecords amount of materials or items received or distributedWeighs or counts items for distribution within the plant to ensure conformance to company standardsArrange stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workersCompiles worksheets or tickets from customer specificationsDrivers lift trucks to transport stored items throughout the plant or to pick up items from department locations for shipmentMaintains inventory recordsAll other duties as assignedQualifications:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceOne year of experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment, printing or packaging industry experience preferredAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsAbility to read and interpret rulers, scales, and other measurement devices.Physical Requirements:Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment (24-hour turnaround on product)Aptitude for mechanical operationAbility to stand and walk for extended periodsMust be able to lift/move up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistanceExcellent attendance and punctuality - accurately record work time on a daily basis
