With a commitment to professional development and growth, let us connect you to your next career opportunity.Job SummaryThe Manufacturing Technology Engineer – Injection Molding is responsible for the design, build, and maintenance of injection and compression mold tooling. The Manufacturing Technology Engineer works closely with Product Development and Design Engineering to optimize the manufacturability of plastic parts.

The Manufacturing Technology Engineer will be the primary interface between AFL, the tool maker, and the molder during the tool lifecycle.ResponsibilitiesWork collaboratively with Product Development and Design Engineering to optimize the manufacturability of plastic parts, including material selection and feature optimization. Drive the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) of all new parts to be molded.Review and approve new tool designs and modificationsLead projects to design, build, and commission injection and compression mold tooling, including obtaining tooling and part quotes from suppliersWork collaboratively with Product Engineering and Supply Chain to scope and implement changes to released injection and compression toolingSupport engineering and quality team during plastic part approval process, including FAI/PPAP IQ, OQ, PQ Validation protocols & Statistical Process Control (Cpk)Apply engineering analysis to make data-driven design decisions.Use sound engineering principles and practices to develop practical solutions to complex problems and to develop new technologies that serve to evolve AFL's product portfolio.Interface with cross-functional project teams consisting of product management, application engineering, process and manufacturing engineering, quality, and development engineering during all phases of product development, including ramp-up and release to manufacturing.Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.Perform other engineering related duties as required.Personal QualitiesInitiative – willingness to take on additional responsibilitiesTeamwork – works effectively in a cross-functional team environmentCommunication – possess strong written and verbal skillsDetail Oriented – possess strong attention to detailFlexible - able to quickly adapt to changes in priorities and deadlinesQualificationsBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or other similar technical discipline)3+ years of experience designing and/or building injection mold toolingParametric solid modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred)Knowledge of plastic material properties and applicationsKnowledge of plastic part design practicesKnowledge of or experience running mold flow simulationKnowledge of plastic part metrologyProject management experienceExperience working within an ISO-9001 quality management systemEffective oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal, influencing and teamwork skillsEffective time management and organizational skillsPreferred Skills: (Not Required)5+ years of experience designing and/or building injection and/or compression mold tooling2+ year of experience designing plastic partsFiber Optic industry experience, especially design, development, and/or applicationsMetrologyWorking ConditionsPrimary work environment is an office environmentOccasional work in tool machine shops and injection molding shop floor operations to support tool builds and acceptanceUp to 25% domestic and international travelEqual Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities
