What you'll do
Depending on the project, you may:
Analyze: Review manufacturing processes, production systems, engineering specifications, process plans, quality data, and manufacturing scenarios.
Evaluate: Review AI-generated manufacturing solutions, process recommendations, calculations, technical explanations, and reasoning.
Validate: Determine whether AI-generated manufacturing outputs are technically accurate, practical, efficient, and consistent with manufacturing principles.
Review: Assess process designs, production methods, tooling, quality systems, manufacturing documentation, and process improvement recommendations.
Reason: Solve realistic manufacturing engineering problems and explain how an experienced manufacturing engineer would approach them.
Compare solutions: Assess multiple AI-generated manufacturing solutions and identify meaningful differences in accuracy, efficiency, feasibility, quality, safety, and professional judgment.
Create evaluations: Develop challenging manufacturing engineering tasks and criteria for measuring AI systems.
Provide expert judgment: Identify errors, incorrect assumptions, process weaknesses, inefficiencies, quality risks, and technical issues in AI-generated manufacturing work.
Projects may involve manufacturing processes, production engineering, process optimization, quality control, lean manufacturing, CNC machining, automation, robotics, tooling, assembly, supply chain, industrial engineering, additive manufacturing, and other areas depending on your expertise.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for experienced manufacturing engineering professionals, not necessarily AI researchers.
You should have:
3+ years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering, production engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field
Strong engineering and analytical reasoning skills
Experience working with real-world manufacturing processes and production systems
Ability to evaluate manufacturing analysis, processes, and recommendations critically
Strong attention to detail
Ability to identify errors, inconsistencies, incorrect assumptions, inefficiencies, and process limitations
Strong professional judgment
Ability to clearly explain why a manufacturing process or engineering solution is correct or incorrect
Experience with any of the following is valuable:
Manufacturing process design
Production engineering
Process optimization
Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma
Quality control and quality assurance
CNC machining and machining processes
Automation and robotics
Tooling and fixture design
Assembly and production systems
Additive manufacturing
Industrial engineering
Manufacturing systems and operations
Process validation and improvement
Engineering standards and specifications
You do not need prior experience working in AI.
What matters most is that you know how to do manufacturing engineering work well.
You might be asked to:
Review an AI-generated manufacturing engineering solution and identify the issues.
Evaluate whether a proposed manufacturing process is technically feasible and efficient.
Assess whether an AI-generated process plan satisfies specified manufacturing requirements.
Compare two AI-generated manufacturing solutions and determine which is stronger.
Evaluate an AI-generated recommendation for improving production efficiency or quality.
Review a manufacturing process and identify potential quality, safety, or reliability issues.
Analyze a realistic manufacturing scenario and explain your reasoning.
Identify process errors, incorrect assumptions, inefficiencies, inconsistencies, or unsupported conclusions.
Evaluate whether an AI-generated manufacturing recommendation is practical for real-world production.
Create challenging manufacturing engineering problems that can be used to evaluate AI systems.
The goal is not simply to determine whether manufacturing work looks reasonable.
The goal is to capture the judgment an experienced manufacturing engineer uses to determine whether manufacturing work actually makes sense.
Compensation
Paid project-based work.
Rates vary based on your experience, specialization, and project requirements. Your applicable rate and project scope will be shown before you commit to a project.
Some projects are short assignments. Others may involve recurring work over a longer period.
There is no fixed schedule and no minimum commitment.
Work arrangement
Remote
Asynchronous
Project-based
Flexible hours
Work around your existing job or commitments
Paid for qualifying project work
But producing a plausible-looking manufacturing answer is not the same as demonstrating strong manufacturing engineering judgment.
AI needs to learn how experienced manufacturing engineers:
Analyze manufacturing processes
Evaluate production methods
Assess process efficiency and feasibility
Identify quality issues and process risks
Optimize manufacturing workflows
Evaluate tooling and equipment
Assess automation opportunities
Apply manufacturing standards and specifications
Identify errors and inconsistencies
Recognize important edge cases
Compare manufacturing solutions
Explain technical conclusions clearly
Determine when a manufacturing process is actually reliable
That's where you come in.
Your manufacturing engineering expertise helps shape how AI learns to reason about manufacturing.
