Manufacturing EngineerLocation: Goleta, CA, US, 93117 Business Unit: Rotron PDTThe Manufacturing Engineer designs, maintains and optimizes manufacturing and assembly processes for production programs. This role drives production flow through hands-on troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who excels in an autonomous and dynamic environment.Key Responsibilities:Evaluates and optimizes manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of product, manufacturing, assembly, and tooling; conferring with suppliers and machine shops; and soliciting feedback from technicians and engineeringCreates and maintains assembly work instructions, assembly drawings, BOMs, and test procedures for production programsSupports assembly and testing of product, as well as test procedure and test report documentation.
Provides direction and guidance to technicians as neededSupports the transfer of new products from engineering to productionTroubleshoots issues and non-conformances with product, material, or equipment on the production floor as well as with suppliers and customersLeads root cause analyses, fishbone studies, and corrective action documentation, communication, and implementationResearch and develop standards and equipment needed to support testing and manufacturingDevelops automated test capabilities to support product design verification and long-term testingImproves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing product yield, planning workflow, while also optimizing cost, labor, and material. Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirementsMonitors and updates Earned Standard Hours based on actual performanceKeeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special serviceDemonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputsRequired Qualifications:Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science in mechanical or aerospace engineering 2 years of work experience in aerospace manufacturing engineering (or equivalent)Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong ability to read, interpret, and create technical documents (fluid (P&ID) schematics, mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material, work instructions, test procedures, safety procedures) Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes (CNC machining (lathe, mill), welding, additive manufacturing, etc) Experience with Solidworks CAD is highly desirable Hands-on experience with electromechanical and fluid flow equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, HVAC, AC/BLDC motors, BLDC motor controllers) is a plus Familiarity with aerospace production and test environment (temp, altitude, vibe, shock, EMI, etc.) is a plus Highly motivated, accountable, able to work independently with minimal oversight Strong and effective communication with employees, suppliers and customers Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, strong ability to adapt and learn new software applicationsPhysical Demands & Work Environment: Office and manufacturing environments Manufacturing environment includes hands-on assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of product.Benefits: Competitive compensation and holiday pay.
