Onsite Contract Engineering
Job Description Job Description Location: Delphos, OH
Employment Type: Full-time, Direct hire Job Brief
Kable Workforce Solutions is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer for our client. This job is responsible for defining how products are made at the site, including process parameters, equipment settings, line capacity, equipment selection and installation, and engineering standards. Works between what the business wants to produce and what the plant can physically produce, and closes that gap through engineering so lines run at their designed rates and new equipment starts up cleanly. What's a Typical Day Like?
  • Define, validate, and document process parameters, equipment settings, and run rates for each product and line.
  • Analyze line performance and capacity to find the constraint and quantify the loss.
  • Evaluate equipment capability against product and packaging requirements.
  • Lead technical investigations on chronic equipment and process problems and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Evaluate material, ingredient, and packaging changes, run production trials, and define the settings needed to run them.
  • Scope, justify, and manage capital projects, including capital requests, budget, and schedule.
  • Write equipment specifications and requests for proposal, evaluate vendors, and make sourcing recommendations.
  • Manage factory and site acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, and handover to Operations and Maintenance.
  • Coordinate contractors on site, including scheduling, safety orientation, and permit compliance.
  • Verify new equipment meets sanitary design, machine safety, and electrical and mechanical code before it is released to production.
  • Partner with R&D, Quality, and Operations to move new and reformulated products from pilot scale to full production.
  • Manage engineering change control for process and equipment changes.
  • Maintain site technical documentation, including drawings, line layouts, P&IDs, utility maps, and equipment files.
  • Support audits with engineering documentation, and report on project status and capital spend.
  • Provide engineering support to Maintenance and Production, and train operators, mechanics, and supervisors on new equipment before startup.
  • Review yield, waste, utility use, and material usage to find ways to reduce loss.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned.
What Are the Requirements of the Job?
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemical, Packaging, or Food Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience in food, beverage, or another regulated consumer products environment.
  • Experience owning capital projects from justification through commissioning and handover.
  • Ability to analyze production data and back up recommendations with evidence.
  • Working proficiency in CAD for line layouts and equipment drawings.
  • Working knowledge of sanitary design, GMP, allergen control, and food safety as they apply to equipment and process design.
  • Working knowledge of machine safety standards, guarding, and risk assessment.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to operators, supervisors, and site leadership.
  • Ability to work off shifts, weekends, and shutdowns for trials, installations, and startups.
  • Experience with filling, sealing, labeling, case packing, and palletizing equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with thermal processing, clean in place systems, and refrigerated processing is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of controls and automation is a plus.
  • Experience with plant utilities, including refrigeration, steam, compressed air, and wastewater, and familiarity with PSM where ammonia is present is a plus.
  • Statistical analysis skills applied to process data are a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs. Team lift required above 35 lbs.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and on the production floor around moving equipment, wet surfaces, chemicals, and loud noise.
  • Ability to follow required PPE and GMP requirements, including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, hairnet, and beard net.
  • Occasional travel to vendors, equipment suppliers, trade shows, training, and other company sites.
