Role Overview
BMO is hiring a Managing Director, Private Equity to join its Community Capital Solutions (CCS) team in Chicago, IL — investing the bank's balance sheet as a limited partner in Small Business Investment Company (SBIC)-licensed private equity funds managed by financial sponsors investing in lower middle market companies across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Own accountability for 40+ LP investment files as the primary point person, setting the agenda with sponsor partners
- Coordinate execution for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing and other strategic initiatives on assigned files
- Track carrying values and exposure; oversee risk analysis for decision-ready portfolio updates
- Manage the pipeline of new investments and serve on limited partner advisory committees for CCS portfolio funds
- Co‑lead file completion/documentation, present investment and monitoring materials to committees
- Prepare and review portfolio forecasts, dashboards, quarterly reporting and valuations
- Complete preliminary due diligence on new opportunities and prepare investment recommendations to the Investment Committee
- Mentor junior team members with a "player-coach" approach; partner with BMO Commercial, BMO Capital Markets and CRA Governance
Qualifications
- 10+ years in investing/finance roles, including specific experience investing in SBIC funds as a limited partner
- Business degree (BCom/MBA); CFA/AACI/CPA an asset
- Experience leading and mentoring Analysts/Associates
