JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the day to day management and operation of a hospital laboratory cancer center laboratory or clinical laboratory and associated services Serves as the operational partner to the CLIA Medical Director and is accountable for laboratory staffing quality regulatory compliance financial performance and customer service Represents the laboratory in hospital leadership activities and to commercial clients Ensures laboratory services meet patient care operational regulatory and organizational requirements Serves as the CLIA General Supervisor designee and performs bench duties as needed to support laboratory operations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for the selection development competency assessment performance coaching and evaluation of laboratory staff Schedule and deploy staff to meet patient care needs workload demands and productivity expectations Communicate and implement laboratory policies procedures operational changes and organizational initiatives Maintain regular two way communication with employees encouraging feedback discussion and idea sharing Establish high employee engagement by fostering a culture of respect inclusion accountability and continuous improvement; recognizing and celebrating employee achievements and contributions in a timely and meaningful manner; and addressing employee concerns proactively Lead by example demonstrating behaviors that align with the iCare values Serve as the CLIA General Supervisor designee and perform laboratory testing as needed to support operations and maintain service levels Ensure laboratory equipment and instrumentation are properly maintained and functioning to support safe and effective operations Ensure adequate supplies reagents and inventory are available to support uninterrupted laboratory services Ensure quality control and proficiency testing activities are performed evaluated documented and that appropriate corrective actions are implemented when necessary Monitor quality indicators implement corrective actions within scope and collaborate with the Medical Director and Quality teams to achieve quality improvement goals Maintain inspection readiness and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory accreditation and organizational requirements Represent the laboratory at hospital committees leadership meetings and multidisciplinary workgroups Participate in Patient Process Improvement initiatives and support organizational quality and patient safety objectives Develop and manage departmental budgets review monthly financial performance and ensure responsible stewardship of resources Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Meet one of the following Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology or equivalent Bachelors Degree in biological sciences chemical sciences laboratory sciences or equivalent Completion of an official US military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks duration and having held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist Laboratory Technician
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Two 2 years relevant high complexity clinical laboratory experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS PREFERENCES
Previous supervisory lead charge technologist or management experience
APPLICABLE CERTIFICATION
ASCP AMT or equivalent as required by assigned laboratory discipline
