Position Summary
Position Summary — As part of the Parker Lord Mechanical Technology organization this position is responsible for creating, planning and driving efficiencies of the test lab and teams. Plans for and manages personnel, equipment, and floor space to enable a safe, highly productive, and efficient lab. Interfaces with program management and technical management teams to identify and implement improvements to work, and to assess and recommend work that should be performed internally. Prioritizes support requests from multiple internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities: Implement and enforce high safety standards in the labs, including the development and maintenance of a lab safety handbook, training for new employees on lab safety and the safety handbook, periodic safety training for all staff, identification of high hazard lab assets, development of safety reviews and plans for these assets (including safety procedures, safety infrastructure and signage), and maintenance of placards and databases indicating asset experts and authorized users.
- Develop strategy to support the business by evaluating current and future resource needs for infrastructure and skilled personnel. Collaborate with program management to identify gaps and develop and implement plans to close gaps.
- Manage laboratory operations, including scheduling work, ensuring required training, mentoring/coaching, conflict resolution, performance planning and management, goal setting, and communication of corporate and organizational information and priorities, and hiring of appropriate personnel.
- Manage lab workload to create efficiencies through optimal identification and deployment of laboratory resources based on organizational priorities.
- Maintain a productive lab environment including acquisition, upkeep and scheduling of laboratory capital assets and equipment; management and optimal utilization of laboratory tooling; management, calibration and optimal utilization of lab instrumentation, gauges and test equipment.
- Enable the labs to be a company showcase for advancing business interests, strengthening relationships, recruiting personnel and conveying the LORD brand. Ensure parts of the lab are in a “tour ready” state and support coordination and execution of lab tours and demos.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in a laboratory or production environment
- Previous leadership/managerial experience
- Demonstrated skills implementing organizational change and resource management
- Demonstrated effectiveness in customer interface
- Possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage and lead a team
- Considerable technical knowledge of products, technologies, and equipment used for testing
- Strong skills using various laboratory instrumentation, gauges and other lab assets
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously utilizing project management, organizational, and planning skills
- Ability to translate customer requirements into viable testing solutions
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering or MBA
