Overview
Sentara Heart Hospital located on the campus of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Manager of Surgical Services Cardiac Operating Room. The role assumes responsibility and accountability for operations and success, ensuring delivery of high‑quality services that meet or exceed customer expectations. The Manager is responsible for safe management of patients throughout the perioperative experience, serving as a mentor by role‑modeling professional practice consistent with surgeon expectations, organizational goals, customer service, clinical effectiveness, patient safety, and clinical standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Oversee operations of five operating rooms, including one hybrid OR, managing 8+ cases daily.
- Ensure safe, efficient perioperative care and delivery of high‑quality services to patients.
- Mentor and lead a multidisciplinary team of Cardio‑thoracic surgeons, OR attendants, surgical techs, surgical assistants, perfusionists, anesthesiologists, cardiovascular technologists, and physician assistants.
- Coordinate preparation of the OR room, equipment, and medications for each case.
- Review patient charts, assess patients upon admission, and prepare patients for surgery.
- Administer medications and monitor vital signs during procedures.
- Document all perioperative information and provide a detailed call report to the ICU floor nurse after each procedure.
- Prepare the OR for the next case, ensuring readiness and cleanliness.
Qualifications
- BSN degree required; Master's level degree in nursing preferred.
- Virginia RN license required.
- Minimum 3 years of OR experience and 3 years of leadership experience.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
