Responsibilities
- Participates in patient tracking and follow-up processes, assisting with recalls, additional imaging coordination, and biopsy scheduling as required by departmental workflows.
- Supports breast center initiatives, such as accreditation preparation, community screening events, or quality improvement activities.
- Follows department protocols for patient identification, informed consent, and time-out procedures prior to starting exams.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems.
- Performs high-quality examinations in accordance with provider orders and departmental protocols, ensuring optimal image quality for accurate diagnosis.
- Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use, and that all equipment undergoes routine cleaning and safety checks.
- Notifies appropriate personnel when inventory is low.
- Performs and documents daily system quality control (QC) checks in compliance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
- Positions patients and operates mammography equipment to obtain optimal images, adjusting technical factors and compression as needed.
- Ensures patient identification, safety, and comfort, explaining procedures clearly and addressing questions or concerns with professionalism and compassion.
- Follows all MQSA, FDA, and ACR guidelines, including quality control testing, equipment performance checks, and documentation requirements.
- Collaborates with radiologists and breast imaging team to ensure accurate imaging and timely communication of results or next steps.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Mammography and Diagnostic Radiological Procedures/Positions (Required)
- Ability to determine appropriate technical factors (Required)
- Knowledge of Mammography equipment and MQSA and ACR regulations (Required)
- Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Image Quality and Radiation Safety (Required)
- Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of various diverse backgrounds (Required)
- Ability to complete Mammography exams in a timely manner even under stressful condition (Required)
- Knowledge of PACS and associated equipment (Preferred)
- Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English (Required)
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (Required)
- Ability to make judgments that must be made on a regular basis regarding exam protocols and imaging techniques, based upon patient condition and provisional diagnosis (Required)
- Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures (Required)
- Must maintain all required registries and licenses to perform imaging procedures (Required)
- Ability to follow Basic Radiation Safety concepts of time, distance, and shielding to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff (Required)
- Performance of 2D and 3D mammography exams (Required)
Education
- Associate (Preferred)
- High School Grad or Equiv (Required)
Work Experience
- 1+ year of experience (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) (Required)
- Registered Mammographer RT(R)(M)(ARRT) AND Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) with Texas Medical Board (TMB) (Required)
