Mammography Technologist (Norwalk Hospital)

Sign‑on bonus: $20,000 for experienced candidates.

Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills in mammographic imaging.

Responsibilities

• Follow ALARA principles and scan patients with appropriate exposure and minimal repeatability; wear radiation badge(s) to track personal exposure; verify pregnancy status and obtain waiver as needed; note all repeat/rejected images.
• Identify patients by name/DOB, introduce yourself, review prescription and protocol for appropriateness, advise patients on exam preparation, explain procedure, answer questions, and follow‑up when necessary.
• Determine technical factors for correct exposure, set appropriate compression values, position all routine and technically challenging views for optimal quality, cover appropriate anatomy, use proper imaging parameters including mole and scar markers, and monitor and communicate with patient throughout the exam.
• Respect scheduled appointment times, communicate delays, review charge entry, edit exam or notify staff, complete charge sheet accurately with correct CPT4 code, start and complete examination in ADS workflow, check in breast ultrasound, and include complete and accurate notes to the sonographer.
• Evaluate mammographic images for technical quality, repeat images as necessary, verify images in PACS, perform post‑processing and/or transfer appropriate images to dedicated workstations, ensure prior exams and reports are available for comparison, provide correct forms/documentation and concise relevant history to the radiologist for interpretation.
• Select correct patient, update necessary clinical history, enter pertinent notes relating to present exam, indicate reason for exam/location of concern, resolve prior examinations accurately, indicate when shielding was utilized.
• Follow universal precautions, clean and disinfect between patients, perform high‑level disinfection, indicate infection control completed prior to exam in Magview, keep work area, waiting rooms, and dressing rooms clean and tidy, and stock supplies daily.
• Maintain mammography, stereotactic and/or bone density department quality‑control standards and logs, initiate equipment service requests, notify supervisor, participate in time‑out procedures, perform quality‑control tests per ACR requirements, and reboot/shutdown systems per manufacturer guidelines.
• Recognize specific psychological and/or physical needs of patients, respond to situations requiring a timely response, document relevant information on incident forms, locate and use emergency equipment, initiate emergency response policy.
• Function as a technologist in other modalities (X‑Ray, stereotactic biopsy, bone density) upon supervisor request and skill level.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
• Minimum of 1 year of mammography experience (GE preferred).
• Desires ARRT Certification in Radiography and aims to obtain ARRT Certification in Mammography within 1 year of hire.
• CT State license.
• CPR certification.
• Maintain continuing education requirements (24 CE credits per biennium).
• Maintain MQSA requirements (15 CE mammography‑specific credits every 3 years).
• Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Professionalism necessary to instill patient confidence.
• Positive attitude and demonstrates respect and courtesy.
• Computer skills: able to utilize PACS, RIS systems, mammography tracking systems, and other required computer programs.

Preferred Qualifications

• ARRT Certification in Mammography already achieved.
• Experience with stereotactic biopsy, X‑Ray, or bone density modalities.
