As part of the Imaging Services Team, the Mammography Technologist provides support for the radiologist in the performance of high quality breast imaging and provides related work as required.

Essential Duties

  • Organizes, plans and directs activities related to patients and breast imaging procedures for their designated areas.
  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all radiographic equipment (i.e., tomosynthesis unit, stereotactic unit) within the department necessary to perform studies.
  • Demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills and uses film markers properly.
  • Adjust technical factors in proportion to patient age and body part being examined while minimizing radiation.
  • Performs and/or assists with mammography procedures according to approved department procedure manual.
  • Reviews patient’s breast imaging questionnaire, doctor’s order and requisition for physician notes and/or special instructions, reviews with radiologist and patient if necessary to assure safety and appropriateness.
  • Recognizes emergency situations, indicates code and properly administers aid as needed.
  • Performs visual inspections, selects appropriate equipment and applies immobilization devices as required.
  • Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination to patient and instruments.
  • Records pertinent patient information and completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files. Performs billing functions timely and accurately.
  • Responsible for the Quality Control of all films for proper positioning, technique and identification.
  • Prepares films and film jacket timely for interpretation by radiologist.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Uploads CDs and digitizes breast imaging studies as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized/technical training: Graduate of an AMA approved 2‑year Radiologic Technology Program.
  • 1 year experience as a mammography technologist.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.

Preferred Qualifications

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Mammographic Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH)
  • Mammography (ARRT)
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City); if no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days and maintained by renewal before expiration date (Required within LA City only).

The hourly rate range for this position is $45.00 - $76.50.
