Maintenance Engineer

The Maintenance Engineer sets up and operates CNC milling and lathe machinery to produce precision parts, performs tool changes and offsets, and supports material loading into equipment. This role conducts quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges, and ensures work areas remain clean and safe. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, basic electrical and wiring tasks, and the use of hand and power tools in a modern, temperature-controlled production environment.

Responsibilities
  • Set up CNC milling and lathe machines to manufacture precision parts according to specifications.
  • Perform tool changes and adjust machine offsets to maintain accurate and efficient production.
  • Assist with loading raw materials and components into CNC machinery in a safe and organized manner.
  • Complete quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify parts meet required tolerances.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to guide part machining and assembly work.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to support fabrication, assembly, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform wiring tasks, including feeding wires and crimping them securely, requiring strong hand dexterity.
  • Follow written and verbal directions carefully to ensure consistent production and maintenance standards.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow workplace safety procedures at all times.
  • Support general labor and production tasks as needed to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Apply basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications, to document work and access instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on equipment, including PLC-related work, to minimize downtime.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience in maintenance work that includes PLC-related tasks.
  • Hands-on experience setting up and working with CNC machines, including CNC lathes and CNC mills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for part machining and assembly.
  • Experience with fabrication and assembly in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electrical tasks.
  • Wiring experience, including feeding and crimping wires, with sufficient hand strength for repetitive tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate machining, assembly, and quality inspection.
  • Ability to follow directions consistently and work within established procedures and standards.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications, for documentation and communication.
  • Comfort performing general labor and production support tasks as part of daily responsibilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with PLCs beyond basic maintenance is a plus.
  • Electrical experience at a higher level is considered an advantage.
  • Prior automation experience in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
  • Background in using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Exposure to temperature-controlled production facilities and clean work environments.
  • Ability to work effectively on either first or second shift as needed by the operation.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very clean, temperature-controlled production facility where safety and organization are prioritized. Team members use CNC milling and lathe machines, hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, along with basic computer applications like Microsoft Office. The position follows a structured shift schedule: first shift runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and second shift runs Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with multiple openings on each shift. The environment supports focused, hands-on technical work in a modern manufacturing setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Sioux City, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $37.00/hr.
