Mainframe Systems EngineerAt Regions, the Mainframe Systems Engineer installs and maintains mainframe operating systems ensuring the stability, performance and security of our mainframe environment while driving innovation and continuous improvement.Primary ResponsibilitiesEvaluates system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibilityTroubleshoots and resolves complex technical issues related to mainframe systems and applicationsAdministers, configures, and maintains mainframe systems, including hardware, operating systems, and software componentsMaintains operational effectiveness and efficiency by monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting mainframe operating systemsMaintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standardsMaintains installation records by documenting system configurations, procedures, and best practicesResolves problems by determining cause, providing technical assistance to applications and other support staffDevelops and implements backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuityCovers on call 24x7 on a rotating basis for problem resolution and SEV1 incidentsEnsures compliance with risk management programs, rules and regulations, and cybersecurity practices; identifies opportunities for and supports process improvements; applies disciplined change management practicesThis position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.RequirementsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field and six (6) years of mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installation experienceOr High School Diploma or GED with ten (10) years of experience of mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installationExperience in installation and support of Mainframe system products including ZOS, CICS, MQ, DB2, Storage, Automation, ZLINUX or NetworkingExperience in problem determination, installation and support of mainframe products, disaster recovery experience and knowledge, and performance and tuning experienceExperience in opening, managing, solving, and closing problems with vendor support centersSkills and CompetenciesAbility to interpret and ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and industry guidanceAbility to work in a team environment when applicableAbility to work under limited guidanceAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesExcellent problem solving and trouble shooting skillsStrong communication and collaboration abilitiesStrong understanding of mainframe hardwareAdditional Preferences:Basic Networking KnowledgeTCPIPIP V4 addressing, subnetting, utilities like traceroute, ping, etc.Routing protocols (OSPF and static routes in our case)Content delivery, load balancersDNS basic knowledge: forward/reverse lookup, resolvers, DNS caching/time to liveFTP/FTPS/SFTP/SSHVTAMBasic configuration: Major nodes, application definitions, Enterprise ExtenderBasic Unix knowledgeFile structureBasic commands: ls, cd, chmod, etc.Basic z/OS knowledgeTSO, ISPF,JCL, job submission, etc.SecurityTLS sessionsCertificate chains, keyringsNice to have:z/OS policy agent (PAGENT)ZOSMF network configuration assistantManaged file transfer applications such as Connect DirectMainframe print delivery (Infoprint)Hypersockets and Shared Memory communicationService Now experienceThis position is currently offsite, preferably close to a Regions office within our retail branch footprint. Associates will work from their home primarily and may be expected to go on site for meetings or other events as needed.Regions will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position at this time.
