About the Role

The client is seeking an experienced Application Developer to join its Business Technology Support Division. This role will focus on maintaining, enhancing, and supporting mission-critical applications that serve transportation operations across the state.

The ideal candidate will have strong Mainframe development experience and be comfortable working in a collaborative environment utilizing Agile development methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Analyze business requirements and develop technical solutions
• Support and troubleshoot existing production applications
• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle
• Develop and maintain COBOL and CICS applications
• Create and maintain DB2 database access and SQL queries
• Develop and support JCL processes and job scheduling activities
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and development teams
• Perform analysis, coding, testing, implementation, and production support
• Assist with application architecture, design, and system documentation
• Support legacy systems while contributing to modernization efforts

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Technical Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and development experience
• Minimum 5+ years of application development experience
• Recent COBOL programming experience within the last year
• Strong experience with COBOL and CICS
• Experience with JCL and job scheduling
• IBM z/OS Mainframe experience
• Experience using TSO
• Strong SQL and DB2 experience
• Experience writing QMF queries and creating database tables
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
