At Parker, our team members belong, matter and make a difference.We are seeking a Magnetic and Motor Design Manager to lead our electromagnetic systems development team. This role requires technical mastery in electromagnetic theory combined with practical experience in manufacturing and test of magnetics and motors.

The ideal candidate will be a recognized magnetic design expert who bridges design excellence with manufacturing reality, ensuring all designs are producible at scale while meeting aerospace requirements and maintaining rigorous configuration control. This role will be based in either Irvine, CA or Fort Worth, TX. Relocation may be provided, if applicable.Scope/Supervision & Interaction: Has Direct Reports Does Not Have Direct ReportsTechnical LeadershipServe as chief technical authority for electromagnetic design and magnetic circuit optimizationLead magnetic material selection including rare-earth magnets and soft magnetic compositesDrive high power density motor innovations while ensuring manufacturabilityEstablish electromagnetic design standards and validation methodologiesLead customer-facing technical engagements, including requirements capture, design reviews, and executive-level presentations; translate customer needs into actionable specificationsSystem Integration & CommunicationDevelop and maintain standardized motor characterization/performance reports, parameter datasets, and equivalent circuit models to support system simulation, performance analysis, and power electronics drive development.Interface with mechanical, thermal, controls, and power electronics teamsCommunicate technical trade-offs and risks to executives and customersLead customer-facing technical engagements, including requirements capture, design reviews, and executive-level presentations; translate customer needs into actionable specificationsFacilitate cross-functional and customer design reviews, document decisions and risks, and drive mitigation plans across engineering and manufacturing teams.Manufacturing & ProductionCollaborate with manufacturing to optimize designs for production processesManage technical relationships with magnet suppliers and winding vendorsLead design for manufacturability reviews and cost reduction initiativesQualify alternative suppliers for critical magnetic componentsTest & ValidationDefine comprehensive test strategies including dynamometer, thermal, and life testingLead root cause analysis and establish simulation-to-test correlationOversee qualification testing per DO-160 and MIL-STD-810Program & Configuration ManagementManage concurrent motor development programs from concept through productionLead critical design reviews and gate reviewsEstablish and maintain configuration management processes for electromagnetic designsOversee configuration baselines and manage engineering change ordersControl design release and change management through production lifecycleTeam LeadershipBuild and mentor a team of electromagnetic design engineersFoster technical excellence while building collaborative relationshipsIdentify and create technical training, conduct performance evaluations, and establish development plansDemonstrated success managing technical teams and complex engineering programsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree (BS) in engineering or a science technical discipline. Master's or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or related field with electromagnetics preferred.10+ years electromagnetic device design experience with demonstrated aerospace motor expertise.Has prior management/supervisory responsibility for 4 or more years.Expertise in tools like ANSYS Maxwell, MotorCAD, FLUX, and JMAGProven experience with configuration management and PLM systemsExtensive motor testing experience including dynamometer and thermal characterizationDeep understanding of manufacturing processes: magnetization, winding, vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI), assemblyProven supplier management and production transition experienceStrong knowledge of magnetic materials and demagnetization characteristicsMotor control expertise including field-oriented control and sensor-less techniquesPreferred QualificationsExperience with high-speed permanent magnet machinesKnowledge of additive manufacturing techniques for magnetic componentsMulti-physics optimization and thermal management expertiseExperience with aerospace qualification standards and certification processesBackground in fault-tolerant motor design for critical applicationsTechnical CompetenciesAdvanced magnetic circuit analysis and Maxwell's equations applicationMotor parameter extraction and equivalent circuit modelingManufacturing tolerance analysis for magnetic performanceConfiguration management and design revision controlTest correlation and model validation techniquesMulti-physics thermal and electromagnetic modelingDesign-to-cost optimization and trade studiesFailure mode analysis and reliability engineeringDrug-Free Workplace In accordance with Parker's policies and applicable state laws, Parker provides for a drug-free workplace.
