MachinistFLSA: Non-ExemptDepartment: BackshopReports To: Lead MachinistDOT/ NON-DOT: DOTPosition SummaryPerform a basic to advanced level skilled work to accomplish sheet metal repairs and replacements of structural parts. Fabricate replacement covering, panels, or fairings by using the removed parts as samples. Reads and complies with instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesReview samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of outputTake measurements and mark material for cutting or shapingPlan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a jobSelect appropriate machines (e.g.

lathes) and position or load material for a jobMonitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issuesDetermine and program size of batches and speed of machineMonitor output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defectsPerform routine machine maintenance and repair minor damagesReads instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work.Performs other duties as assigned.Key InteractionsInternalImmediate Manager/Supervisor and other Maintenance LeadershipDepartment LeadsOther department employees and contract employeesExternalBusinesses or OrganizationCorporate and OpCO employeesCustomersVendorsPosition Profile - Required - Desired - LevelAcademic Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED required; Vocational school or apprenticeship preferredLanguages - Read, speak, write, and understand the English language.Special Licenses - Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate is preferred; Airframe Familiarization (FAM) course certificates preferredPrevious Experience - Minimum 18 months of relevant experience providing knowledge of narrow and wide body airframe techniques, terminology, parts, etc.Technical Skills - Individual will perform daily transactions within Flightstar's ERP system, vending (POU), as well as research customer's maintenance manuals.CNC machining experience VF2 3 axis machine.Required Skills - Lifts and carries hand tools, parts, and work materials; ascends and descends ladders and platforms; and frequently works in a variety of positions such as stooping, kneeling or squatting.Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy and attention to detailGreat verbal and written communication skillsExperience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurementsAbility to read blueprints, schematics and manualsKnowledge of metal properties and other materialOutstanding mathematical skills and analytical abilitiesPhysical stamina and strength to lift heavy itemsEqual Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
