Belleville, NJ | Full-time | On-site | $50 to $60 per hour | 4x10 schedule, Monday to Thursday
Are you the machinist everyone on the floor comes to with questions? Our client, an established CNC machine shop in Belleville, is hiring a Shop Foreman to run the production floor. You'll lead the people, own the setups and programs, and keep the machines running, all while working a four-day week.
Why this job
- $50 to $60 per hour, plus a year-end retention bonus of about 10% of base pay

- Real authority over the floor: you set the daily schedule and develop your team
- Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus a 401(k) with company match
- 18 days off in year one, rising to 23 days after your first year
What you'll do
- Set the daily schedule: which jobs run on which machines, in what order, and who runs them
- Adjust the plan for breakdowns, late material, rework, and absences, and keep the Operations Manager informed
- Train and develop machinists from Base to Proficient to Advanced to Journeyman
- Give direct, timely feedback and follow up so the same mistake doesn't happen twice
- Write and prove CAM programs from print or model, including toolpaths, feeds, speeds, and post-processing
- Handle first-run jobs, fixture design, and production problem-solving
- Write, review, and correct setup sheets and programs so repeat jobs run right every time
- Support quoting with routing, cycle time estimates, tooling needs, and feasibility
- Own maintenance for all machines, shop equipment, and the building
- Enforce safety on the floor, including PPE, guarding, lockout, and new-hire safety orientation
What you need
- 8+ years of CNC experience at a journeyman level, including first-run setups on mills and lathes
- Full CAD/CAM capability: you can build a program from a print with no reference set
- GD&T, blueprint reading, and inspection tools
- Speeds and feeds across brass, aluminum, and stainless
- Experience leading or training other machinists
- Mechanical and maintenance aptitude on production equipment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly
You'll fit right in if you
- Teach the why, not just the how, and share what you know freely
- Hold people accountable directly instead of passing conflict up the chain
- Change your mind when the facts change
- Want the shop's output and quality to visibly improve on your watch
