Machine OperatorThis role operates a mill machine that forms metal into precision pipe, supporting a variety of industries including power generation, renewable energy, oil and gas, petrochemical, food and dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, and general commercial applications. The position combines hands-on machine operation, basic mechanical troubleshooting, and quality-focused production work in a skilled environment where you can continuously learn and develop.ResponsibilitiesOperate the mill machine to bend metal into pipe form according to production specifications and quality standards.Change out metal rolls on the mill machine at intervals that can range from every 2 to 12 hours, ensuring proper setup and alignment.Perform routine troubleshooting on the mill and related equipment, identifying mechanical issues and making minor repairs and adjustments as needed.Conduct quality checks throughout the production process, using appropriate measuring tools to verify dimensions and product integrity.Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain consistent output, quality, and safety.Recognize electrical issues involving 3phase, 480volt systems and promptly escalate to appropriate personnel for major electrical repairs.Perform basic welding to connect metal strips, using tack welds as trained, to maintain continuous production flow.Carry out basic preventative maintenance on the mill machine, including cleaning, inspection, and minor component upkeep.Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively during machine operation, maintenance, and minor repairs.Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.Communicate clearly with team members and leadership regarding machine status, maintenance needs, and any production or safety concerns.Document work activities as required, including maintenance performed, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.Essential SkillsAt least 2 years of experience troubleshooting and running machinery in an industrial or manufacturing environment.Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues, solve problems, and think creatively to maintain efficient machine operation.Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance on production or industrial machines.Basic mechanical aptitude, including comfort working with moving parts, machine components, and production equipment.Familiarity with electrical concepts related to 3phase, 480volt systems sufficient to recognize when to call for specialized support.Ability to perform minor welding tasks such as tack welding after on-the-job training.Proficiency using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to perform accurate quality checks.Experience using hand tools and power tools safely in a production or maintenance setting.Background in machining, maintenance, mechanical work, or fabrication.Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and safety.Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a set schedule and maintain reliable attendance.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in machining, maintenance, mechanic work, or fabrication is highly valued.Prior exposure to welding and fabrication tasks, even at a basic level, is beneficial.Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical aspects of production equipment.Ability to think outside the box and approach troubleshooting with a logical, solution-oriented mindset.Strong communication skills to clearly explain issues, maintenance activities, and machine performance.Willingness to learn new skills and continuously improve in a skilled, technical role.2 years of maintenance and welding/fabrication experience is preferred.Why Work Here?You join a stable, growth-oriented organization that offers strong benefits and insurance, along with a relaxed and supportive work environment. Available schedules include A shift (MondayThursday, 5:00 a.m.5:00 p.m.), B shift (MondayThursday, 5:00 p.m.5:00 a.m.), C shift (FridaySunday, 5:00 a.m.5:00 p.m.), and D shift (FridaySunday, 5:00 p.m.5:00 a.m.). Training typically lasts 3 to 6 months before you work independently, providing ample time to learn the mill operation, safety procedures, and quality standards. The workplace is described as very safe and friendly, with a relaxed atmosphere that still maintains high expectations for safety, quality, and communication. You work with industrial mill equipment, measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers, and standard hand and power tools in a production environment designed to support precision metal tubing manufacturing.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Janesville, WI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
