Machine OperatorWe are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Machine Operator to set up and operate manual lathes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on machining parts to precise specifications, using precision measuring tools, and consistently upholding safety and quality standards. The Machine Operator will play a key role in supporting production efficiency and continuous improvement while maintaining a clean and organized work area.ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate manual lathes to machine parts according to detailed specifications and work instructions.Measure and inspect finished products using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools to ensure dimensional accuracy and adherence to tolerances.Read, understand, and execute work instructions, blueprints, and technical documentation to perform machining tasks correctly.Follow all manufacturing standards, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety practices at all times.Safely operate hoists and cranes to move materials, components, and finished parts within the machine shop.Maintain clear and consistent communication with the production team to support workflow, meet production goals, and resolve issues promptly.Ensure high-quality output with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement of machining processes.Use basic math skills for measurements, conversions, and calculating tolerances as part of daily machining tasks.Handle general labor and assembly tasks related to machine operation and machining as needed.Operate related equipment such as CNC lathes, including Haas machines, when required, while primarily working on manual lathes.Utilize hand tools and measuring instruments to set up, adjust, and verify machine operations.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop and safety standards.Essential SkillsAt least 2+ years of machine operation experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.Hands-on experience with manual lathes and manual machining processes.Ability to use and accurately read measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with metals machine operating.Proficiency in basic math, including measurements, conversions, and understanding tolerances.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical documentation.Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistent quality standards.Comfort with lifting up to 40 pounds and standing for approximately 75% of the workday.Ability to follow manufacturing standards, SOPs, and safety procedures reliably.Effective communication skills to collaborate with production team members and support efficient workflow.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a fast-paced production or machine shop environment.Familiarity with CNC lathes and CNC machining, including Haas equipment.Experience using a variety of hand tools for setup, adjustment, and assembly tasks.Experience in general labor, assembly, and machine operating within a manufacturing setting.Comfort working with metals and operating metals machining equipment.Ability to contribute ideas for process improvements and quality enhancements.Willingness to maintain and personalize an individual work space while keeping it organized and safe.Why Work Here?Employees enjoy a dedicated work space that they can personalize, creating a sense of ownership and pride in their environment. The role is based in a clean, old-school machine shop environment alongside laborers and other machinists. Each Machine Operator has their own work space that they can personalize while maintaining safety and organization. The shop provides all necessary tools and equipment, including manual lathes, measuring instruments, hoists, cranes, and related machining tools. Work involves standing for a significant portion of the day and handling materials up to 40 pounds, in a setting that emphasizes safety, craftsmanship, and teamwork.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Itasca, IL.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
